Monday, 30 August 2010 -- Boys' Locker Room

Oliver couldn't sit still. He actually ran from his final class to the locker room. Now, changed, he couldn't hold his leg still, bouncing as he sat on the bench. He kept looking at David's empty locker. QB1 had been a dream when David was there. He'd even convinced himself he'd be fine without it. But now ... All he could do was wait for Coach to arrive and let them know what today's news meant for the team.

Coach Edward September looked over his team. Jujuan looked depressed as did much of the younger parts of the team. It had nearly been a foregone conclusion that before the first game on Friday that David Ray was gong to lead the team. They had even started to look like a team for many of the practices. Even Tank had shut his mouth and put his nose towards grinding holes. Seniors had already started talking that Tank was going to be the de facto QB since he at least was familiar with the old playbook.

September finally put one foot on a bench and asked the team, "What are you all looking like that for? We have a game on Friday. This is a team! That means we pick each other up. When one man falls, the next one gets up and does the job. So I don't want to see any of you boys slacking out there. Anyone of you that quits on me or on the team may as well walk out the door now." He paused dramatically and looked at the squad. "So, any of you ready to walk?"

There were some uncomfortable shuffles and mutters, perhaps some movement toward the door but nobody yet had the nerve to outright leave.
