Ep1 Act3: The Golden Hind

"I am Lieutenant Talla P'Trell, chief of security and tactical of Starbase 42. You are ensign... Ryler? I have not read your file, I am sorry. What is your position?" P'Trell held up a signal to halt, then turned to face the duo of officers.

"This is a lift I think? A column that connects the decks so we may transit ventrally. But I do not know how work it- no hatch."

Then she turned again and watched as Jones bit her tongue.

Zuub moved quickly to her, holding a dermal regenerator. "Have you injured yourself? That looked like it could have pained you. I am here to assist."

"No!" The word escaped far faster than Emerald wanted. She looked at the device in Zuub's hands and sighed. It wasn't a hypospray that was being offered. It was a regenerator. Simple enough. Easy enough. She repressed the shudder that wanted to ripple through her. "No, seriously. I am well enough. A few bruises and they will heal soon. There are others more badly hurt than I." She smiled up at Zuub. "Thank you for checking. I appreciate it. It's all so chaotic right now."

Emerald returned to her task.. and with a subtle tweak of the electronics was able to get a response from the starbase!

"Lieutenant Jones to Starbase... uh.." She paused,unable to remember for a moment the name or the number of the place.. "forty two. Come in please."

"Go ahead Lieutenant Jones. Make it quick." The voice was dispassionate and dismissive. Bitch thought Jones, furious at the way she was being pushed away.

"Listen to me. We were on the exploratory vessel Tim Allen. We have had to evacuate the vessel and we need help. Immediate help. Send another vessel to the co-ordinates I am transmitting to you. One with strong shields and a good engine. The pressu.."

"We are unable to help you at this time."

"WHAT?" Emerald yelled. "Send us help! Now! We're in danger. Most of the crew of the Tim Allen are alive. We are on some kind of other vessel but it seems to be a dang.."

She was cut off again. "We have problems of our own at the moment. The starbase is und.." the transmission dissolved into static. Emerald stared at the badge for a long, long moment and mentally made up names to call the woman on the other end. She fiddled with the badge, trying to get it back again. Her movements more jerky as she became more desperate.

"They won't come," she said eventually, staring at the walls. The badge dropped to the floor from suddenly numb fingers. "They aren't coming to get us. We're on our own. They abandoned us."
