Ciara heard that they were dismissed and quickly got up to leave. She had assignments to give out and an environmental suit to get out of. She was still a little irritated at the captain for the way he had spoken to her, but there was nothing she could do about it at the moment.

Her first stop was to drop off her suit, and, as per the norm, eyes were on her by every man that was there.

"Les yeux à vous !"

Not even knowing what she said, but knowing that she was angry, they turned back to their duties. She wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone else right now, and they certainly weren't helping her mood. It used to be that she didn't care if others were looking at her, but for some reason it was bothering her.

Once the suit had been returned to its proper place, Ci went off to find some of her science team. They had to work with their guests to figure out the area, figure out...everything. They were strangers in the area, and being in the dark was not a place that she wanted to be.

Her feet found their way to astrometrics. This was the best place to start, as she didn't wish to be on the bridge at the moment. The room was empty, which was surprising. Was her team slacking? She knew someone was assigned to the bridge, but beyond that? Someone should be here,at least one person.

Pulling up the schedule, Ciara groaned. "Mettez moi ici, bien sûr ." Punching up another screen, she called in anyone from her team that was free, they had way to much work to do for them to be slacking.

(Translations: Eyes to yourselves!
Put myself here, of course.)

Kat walked briskly and with purpose in front of the Whit and Dolly, taking them on a direct route through the corridors of The Horizon to get to the Guest Quarters aboard. They weren't sumptuous, but well-appointed enough and took up a bit of real estate on board. Their contents had been removed; the special foods and beverages had been confiscated as part of the impending rations program that was surely under consideration to ensure their resources extended as long as possible. The rooms were closer to Security since guests aboard were traditionally somewhat important; either Ambassadors or Planetary Delegates, or even High-Ranking Military Personnel. In this case, however, it seemed even more prudent with the two unknowns.

She would stop intermittently, appearing to be getting her bearings on board, but it was more to allow her shorter guests some time to catch up. It also didn't hurt to take the extra time to ensure there were no restricted areas that the aliens would get a glimpse of before getting settled.

As she approached this part of the ship, the doors here were intermittent, spaced unevenly and without apparent pattern. The randomness was a combination of planned chaos and ensured separation of potential enemies that might have to travel aboard the ship during hostile negotiations, or even if one or more of them might have to be restricted to quarters. Ingenuity, necessity, and paranoia met in a haphazard manner down this corridor. After passing a few doors and empty plating, Kat stood patiently waiting in front of one almost in the centre of the hallway on the right-hand side and turned to her charges.

Smiling, she said politely, "Here we are," with a bright and easy smile on her face. She was the very essence of service and concern as she swung her arm in front of the sensor, opening it. "Let me know if there's anything you need."

Ensign Flowers looked once more around the conference table and nodded briefly. It was time for her to head back to Comms and continue the painstaking translation process that would be the cornerstone of communicating with a wide variety of races in this sector. She had not been on the Away mission and certainly didn't require any time in Sickbay, but she still gave another glance at the Doctor as though to offer him the option of assistance. Russians were usually proud and stubborn, and Arkady was no exception. One subtle raising of her eyebrow and she assessed his response before moving; the shock was setting in slowly and he would need assistance. She was strong, but it would probably take more than one person to get him up and going once more. Inertia, indeed, was a bitch.

There was a brief smile she exchanged with the Captain and left the room in a calm and comfortable manner. Tempers had flared and the rift between the Doctor and the Captain was blatant. She had seen such behaviour before in species fighting for survival. It was pecking order or caste, and short of having a duel at dawn, she was sure that it was going to get a lot worse before it got better. She wasn't sure if it was a fight for power for power's sake, or if there might be another agenda going on. She would wait and see, and of course, continue doing her job. It didn't hurt that she was damned busy and might be at the beck and call of their new guests until they were acclimatised. She didn't relish dealing with Whit and his attitude about females, but it gave her some excellent insight into the level of their society, norms and evolution. Talia was preoccupied thinking on all of this as she headed to the Bridge.

Whit spoke up, "Ya woul'n a had a helpin' of hominae? Slightly on the rare side? That'd be right nice, now, it would."

Kat's smile never wavered. "I'm not familiar with the cuisine in this part of the galaxy, sir, but if you described it to me, I can see what we might be able to arrange."

The Captain accompanied Talia to the bridge. They walked in silence until they hit the turbolift. Once there, he gave her slightly mischievous smile, "Got a penny for those thoughts?"

"I'm not sure they'd be appreciated, Captain," Talia said brusquely, sure of the closed door before speaking. Whatever else might be said, the man must be shrewd enough to notice the tension, the underlying threats... yes, even those bids to topple his authority, or at least shake it pretty well. She took a breath and let it out slowly. "What I meant to say, before I so hastily reacted, Captain, was, 'About what?'"

Whit gave Kat an astonished glance. "Guess yer really aren't from these parts. Hominae is a piece of meat. Quite tender. From the sweetest part of the Kolda Varga." He paused for a moment. "I dunna suppose that yer know what that is, either."

Kat shook her head good-naturedly, undeterred by not knowing something. It wasn't that she didn't study, it was simply that she didn't know. "Spicy, is it? Or mild? And is the meat served bloody or tender, or cooked right through?" She had no idea what the meat might taste like, but in her past experiences, they generally ended up looking and tasting like chicken. It could be a lizard, or a fish, or a meaty fish, or a fishy meat... in fact, it could have been anything and yet... it didn't phase her.

Kolda Varga... sounded more like a person than an animal, but she was quite certain it wasn't the worms down on the surface. But something edible? Well... that was a possible resource for them...
