Day 5.5: The Boats The Beacon Builders Built

So Arkady had the scientist and the engineer on his side. His eyes moved to regard Regan, the old soldier, but the Russian did not automatically conclude that he could count on him. Like himself Regan was a veteran and had seen some of the fiercest fighting in the Romulan War. But how loyal was he to a flag and planet millions of light years distant? How loyal was he to Gary?

But today was not a day to decide utterly the loyalty of others.

"If we have next to no information on which to base a choice, then we should not make one." Arkady intoned coolly, returning his gaze to Gary. "We have only their word that this Congo is a bad thing. Have you thought that maybe they are criminals? Outlaws? That planet they were returning to was not some summer paradise, but it is most certainly an ideal place to land and hide away things."

Before Gary could respond the Russian turned to look at Ci, giving her the warm fatherly smile a former CO had given him just before the Battle of Charon.

"Have you tried to scan their ship yet? We might learn something of their intentions that way, not to mention their level of technology. This...'antibody' they speak of, it is I think perhaps along the same line as the medical curative's and silver bullets that some pharmaceutical companies back home are attempting to make. If so then we are not so far behind as we might fear It would be nice to have scans of that ship to compare to the downloaded journal data." Arkady said, leaving out the obvious side note. If their medical tech was only just behind theirs, then their weapons might be on par.

And if they weren't...well there was a ship docked with possible working examples. Its crew were enclosed in a conference room, and they were outnumbered on the Horizon. But that would set a very different tone for their stay in the Pinwheel Galaxy.

Kat watched the dynamic with some subtle interest, the power struggle almost as thick as the tension between so many. At least she was in the best position to monitor it all, as objectively as possible, and with a start she realised she almost felt as though she were simply biding her time to take down the weakest one she identified. It was an odd feeling, and could almost feel the flow like a wild river...

The Captain had opened the floor for suggestions or input. And something more constructive other than sounding desperately frightened for their own lives would be a better show of force. They were simpering, grasping at their own resources as though they were separate entities rather than part of a whole. How... predictable. How... pathetic. How... weak. Her eyes gleamed a bright green for a brief moment before she looked down at her PADD. It was highly unlikely that anyone noticed it or her... she was the Captain's Yeoman, removed from the table and a recorder of the discussion rather than being a part of it.

Without the visitors inside of the conference room, the gloves most definitely had come off. She almost chuckled under her breath at the dichotomy of actions and words. The reality was quite different indeed. Her stylus continued to dance across the surface of the PADD, recording the meeting through thorough and accurate renderings of the spoken word and her observations. She was wondering how tenuous a position each man in the room was in, and how well the Security Chief might be. She also considered the ability for the Engineer to over write the command codes and if she was enough of an authority to instate an emergency protocol. How diverse her thoughts were as she continued to appear the serene and attentive Yeoman.

She also wondered how the Comm's Officer fit into the situation, and if she too might be a viable part of the leverage on board. How odd her thoughts, how... different. And as the Captain paused, she placed the stylus in its spot on the PADD and massaged her hand as it throbbed slightly with a phantom pain. Binking slightly in surprise as though she felt almost as though she simply appeared in the room without foreknowledge, she waited attentively and her eyes moved across each person easily.

She would reread her notes for the meeting; perhaps her mind had wandered while the others were speaking. Perhaps she had still been mentally down on the surface with the landsharks. Or perhaps she had been elsewhere all together.

"My thought Gary is, extreme caution." Mary finally broke the long silence. Her paranoia from not knowing who planned to stab her in the back, or what these aliens would do coming through her voice. But then again, weren't THEY the aliens rather then the other way around? "We're alone here. I know you want to build allies and friendships, but we have nothing but us. It would be in my opinion far safer to come up with Plan B. Mainly, another planet we could call our own rather then stay here. Since we don't know truly who they are other then what they claim, we could be walking right into hell. Angering a greater power and not having any defenses other then ourselves to deal with it. The ship is already stressed, there may be hidden damage and.." she looked warily at Arkady. "there's definitely emotional and psychological strain! People want to go home, not give up and set up housekeeping. We'd be better finding another place. Then.." she nodded.."seeing what allies we can make from a position of strength."

Ciara sat once again and listened. It was quiet at the moment except for the first officer and the captain. They had points, good ones in fact. She caught the grin that the captain had given and groaned in her head. Even with all of what was going on...

Looking down at the table, she knew she had to say something. Otherwise they would all just be sitting there for a while.

"Finding a place we could use as a safe haven of sorts, in case things go south with whatever 'friends' we do find is a smart idea. And even if we were to find resources along ze way, would we be able to make it all ze way home? Perhaps we should have more than just a plan A and plan B."

She looked back up after speaking, not sure how what she said would be taken.
