Gary slept restlessly. Whether it was because Gary did not take a woman to bed with him or whether it was the weight of the news that he would have to deliver to the Chiefs of Staff, he was uncertain. Either way, he suspected that there would be many sleepless nights ahead of him.

Gary stumbled out of bed and looked at himself in the mirror. His eyes were red and bleary. He thought to himself, If only I could take a real shower. However, I cannot in good conscience; our lives may depend on the water we have. Sonic shower it is. Gary groused as he made his way to the sonic shower. He turned it on and cleansed himself but it did not refresh him or do anything for his mood.

Completing the shower, he put on his uniform. He reminded himself, You must be confident today. The crew has to feel like their lives are not a waste. We have to survive. They need you, Gary. He put on a winning smile. Once confident that he exuded confidence, he strode to the briefing room, making it there at least twenty minutes before the briefing. He knew that KAT would soon arrive. There would not be much time for talk but he would take it if she needed it. After all, he might need the last minute confidence boost, as well.

Dr Arkady Sjet

Arkady was the first one through the door, a medic al computer tablet held under one arm whilst the other hand held a cup of coffee. He took a seat, setting the tablet beforte him next to the half empty coffee coffee: from the rings set into its inner surface it was clearly not the first cup of the day.

But the Russian, as opposed to the other day's out brusts over the com and in person, did not say a word. He just sat there, thumbing through reports on the tablet's screen and sipping the coffee. The way he was acting, this could have been a normal staff meeting going over the communication budget for calls hoime VS uploaded entertainments.

But what he wore around his neck did stand out from the norm: the name badges of the three dead crew members hung there from blood stained lanyards.

That wasn't ominous in the least.

The view from the window wasn't the one that had been there before. The thought created shivers of something akin to fear that rippled through Aoife. She stared at the scene beyond the glass. Well now, it was time to be doing something about this. Perhaps. Should such things be possible at this point in time. And that was the big question really, wasn't it.. was it possible to change any of this. Some dramatic twist of fate that would bring about a reset.

Aoife slipped into a seat at the table, looking around at the others. The doctor worried her. His body language was.. off somehow. Tight. She noted the things hanging around his neck and filed that information away in the mental spot labelled Stuff that isn't right. She was looking forward to seeing Regan. Something vaguely akin to normal would be good at this moment in time.

[Aoife]

Aoife shrugged, not looking away from the Captain's eyes. "A couple of reasons. Regan is.. recoverin'. I ain't sure if he's comin' to the meeting or not. I want to be sure that I'm getting the right information about what's going on. Security is going to have their hands full what with the emotional impact of this situation. More intel I have, better I can do my job."

She sounded unrepentant at pushing her way forward in this manner. When Regan arrived, she supposed that he'd either boot her out and yell at her later for insubordination, or shrug and let her be. Either way worked. She nodded towards the Captain, and added "if that works for you, of course."

Gary moved away from KAT upon Arkady's entrance and sat at the head of the briefing table. He greeted Arkady warmly, "Doctor. Glad to have you here." That was when he noticed the badges hanging around Sjet's neck. Gary refrained from rolling his eyes. Why did Arkady want to make this such a personal matter? he wondered.

"Yes...yes..." he said absently, scratching the growth of stubble clinging to his chin with a loud raspy sound. He reached for the cup of coffee and took a sip, grimacing at the now cold tar like substance "Is glad to be here."

When Aoife slipped in, Gary raised his eyebrows. He directed his attention to Aoife and asked, "Lieutenant Devlin, is the Old Man still not up to resuming his duties? Is that why you are here?"

"Man survives heart attack, you expect him to bounce back. Like this, no?" Arkady said mildly, reaching out and clicking his fingers "The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven."

He leaned forward a little, resting his elbows on the table and gesturing with steepled fingers towards the window.

"I see we have new heaven to work towards, no?"
