LIKES: women, adreneline, excitement, new activities

DISLIKES: boredom, inertia, anything tedious or slow

LIMITATIONS: Gary tends to neglect anything that has to do with himself. It is difficult to settle Gary's mind, so sleep is usually restless and light.

STRENGTHS: Quick thinking, charming, very likeable, garners respect by digging into problems rather than merely delegating.

QUIRKS: Functions best under pressure or a deadline. Gary is the epitome of object in motion. He constantly needs to be doing something. Relaxation is not generally a word in his vocabulary. He's a bit of an adrenaline junky and highly competitive. The closest that he gets to relaxation is when he's wooing and engaging with a member of the opposite sex.

MEDICAL PROFILE: Allergies to shellfish.

CHARACTER HISTORY: Gary grew up in the capital of North Dakota. But, unlike many of the cities and areas of Earth destroyed by World War III, North Dakota remained relatively untouched.

His family, a few years after his birth, moved out of the city and into the country. He would grow up looking up at the stars and wondering about life, the universe, and everything. That soon translated into wondering how things worked. He began to tinker, soon repairing watches, then clocks, laundry machines, cars, and anything that broke.

Enrolling in school, he found a new interest. In fact, this interest was just as much fun as tinkering with machinery: women. The only problem with women is that they were lots of fun at first and then became a burden. Often, he would woo them and leave them as soon as they started talking about anything relative to a relationship. After all, a relationship meant monotony, didn't it?

That would change in 2161. Gary rescued a woman from the Earth shipyards during the Romulan War. Her name was Adrina Elisa Monica Cochrane. All that he knew was she had long legs and a body that made it difficult for him to concentrate on his duties. Though he reluctantly managed his duties, he found time for her and found that they had quite a bit in common. Both were engineers. Both were interested in creating better ships. And, both were single. The two kept in touch over the years and in 2161, he entered a monogamous relationship with her. Life with Adrina was exciting. The two had exciting conversations about the Daedalus project and they would have long days of work followed by unique and exciting intimate relations. The only problem was that Adrina suffered from a rare and incurable form of manic schizophrenia. In some ways, Gary found this to be a positive. After all, it was intriguing and exciting on learning how to deal with her various moods. Also, he felt like that he could fix her. However, after marrying Adrina, he found that the routine became quite tedious and that her mood swings and schizophrenia were too much to bear, despite the sex. Consequently, he filed for divorce in 2164 despite the fact he still adored her.

The only solution for Gary was to get away from it all. First, he took a position on the Bonaventure, just to be on a ship that was away from Adrina. Then, when the position on the Horizon opened, heading for deep space exploration, Gary could not resist. He immediately applied for and received the Horizon. His crew was completed on Starfleet recommendations. He did not care who his crew was. All that he knew was that he had to get away from it all. Perhaps, somewhere, out there was what he was seeking.

Then again, after some time on Horizon, he wondered whether fate existed. Gary could not keep his eyes off of his XO, Commander Mary Wells. She was a bit aloof but there was no mistaking her beauty. And perhaps it was the mystery of her professionalism and aloofness that attracted Gary to her. Swearing off, at great personal difficulty, other women was a must for Mary, as Gary knew that she was a traditional sort. Doing this seemed to help him make headway and from what Gary could tell, Mary's resolve was weakening. However, he has not yet found a way to lure her to his quarters. This, perhaps makes Mary even more attractive to Gary.
