"Computer, begin personal log," James Hatchet said sitting at his computer terminal.

"Today was full of activity..." James paused, considering his words. "Elliot and I made a rather 'unique' first impression to the Captain and First Officer. Something I wish didn't happen to be honest and I'm sure that when they look at us, they're thinking of children. Damn it Elliot. First this and then you have the nerve to call me Jim, I hate that nickname."

After a slight pause, he continued. "The ship itself is full of surprises. It's already earned the nickname of Frankie from some of the ships engineering staff. A nickname that is quickly spreading through the crew. It fits a ship such as this, reborn from the trauma that followed Vulcan's downfall. It's nice to see that the ship is picking itself up after being beaten down, and will go on to explore the unknown and help better prepare the Federation for what's out there.

I did find out today that Security isn't as glamorous as it sounded. There really isn't much to due during standard operations besides routine patrols. It's not as bad as it sounds but certainly wasn't what I was thinking. I know I'm going to regret that.

My quarters are rather spacious, and I find that I don't have nearly enough stuff now. And I was worried that I had to much back at the Academy... The Academy, I'm a little relieved that it's over. But there are people and things that I'll miss about it.

I did meet some of the other newly commissioned officers on board during a brief dinner in the mess hall, not only that but the Commander was there as well. We talked for a bit and it really seemed to calm my nerves a bit. It is still a little nerve wracking to get addressed as a superior by men with far more experience and age than I. But I guess that comes with the whole Officer versus Enlisted thing.

Anyways, it's getting late and I'd rather make a better impression on my department head tomorrow than I did the Captain and Commander this afternoon. Signing off."

The computer chirped and ended the log. James leaned back and sighed thinking of the incident this afternoon.

"Damn it Elliot." He muttered under his breath.
