“But if I stayed in my cell I wouldn’t be here at the party, observing important human social interactions to help me better understand your strange and mysterious culture.”

This would have all sounded a lot more intelligent, down right shocking given the fact Keth was speaking it, had the big Huanni not said this with a mouth full of chips. Where the chips had come from was soon found to be Ensign McGuffin, who between being carried around like a Spartans shield was also acting as Keth’s caddy: in one hand a bowl of chips from the refreshment table, and in the other the now empty bottle of schnapps Keth had single handedly polished off.

“But I did apologize to those four people, I even visited them in sickbay when they were recovering. And I feel really bad about the whole thing.” And had the guards gotten out of my way, and allowed me to do as I please things would have been super fine for the rest of the day.

“But seeing as TK has invited me to join the security department, my clear and obvious contributions to ship board security have been rewarded!” Keth beamed happily to one and all. Of course that was not how things had actually happened, but Keth was man enough to know that TK’s pride would never have allowed him to ask-no, beg. Yes beg Keth to join the security team! He’d even said that Keth was a special kind of angry for the security team.

“He thinks I’m a natural security hazard.” Keth said enthusiastically, beaming with a fair degree of wattage in his carnivorous smile.

TAG-Cindy, TK. Whoo-hoo: finally off the cold meds and back on solid food. Take that fever! ‘Flu shot’ my ass.

Nav had been crouching down beside Jill to see if there was anything more she could do for Luke. She wasn't medical, and had ended up giving him a drink that felled him to the floor as surely as if she had chopped him off at the knees. That constituted Nav doing quite enough for one party, and certainly for one day. She sighed and looked around, spying the Captain with Keth, TK and an Ensign who invariably attracted far too much attention, and stood, smoothing out her dress.

"He's in capable hands, Dr. Vodden," she said and smiled politely. "I'll leave you to it, as I'm quite sure some medical personnel will be able to assist you far more capably." She eyed the bar again, wanting to put more distance between she and Luke and also from temptation. It had been a day all right, and more alcohol wouldn't make it any better. More wistfully, she looked at the door to the Mess...

Nav took a deep sigh of relief. Luke was in the Doctor's capable hands, and in one fell swoop, she was alone again.

Keth was with the Captain, some ensign, and TK, and no one else she knew seemed to be around. That was the perfect moment of time to take a breath, and edge ever closer to the door. No need for a drink. She'd made an appearance, they'd managed to live through their first crisis, and Nav was certain there'd be more. No need to drag this out... she'd done her socialising and now it was time to slide gracefully out of the Mess...
